The International Baccalaureate®
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation, found in 1968 in Geneva, Switzerland. The IB aims to create and provide access opportunities so that more students are able to benefit from a high quality, international educational experience. Students completing the IB programme gain an internationally recognized qualification.
The IB offers three programmes for students aged 3 to 19 which help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. The programmes are modeled on educational systems from around the world, combining the best practices and current educational research to produce a system of education that is recognized by many of the world's top universities.
There are currently over 3,000 IB schools worldwide. Schools offering the IB curriculum undergo an intensive application process and are regularly evaluated by an IB team.
The IB Programmes:
The IB offers three programmes:
- The Primary Years Programme (PYP)
- The Middle Years Programme (MYP)
- The IB Diploma
The Academy is the first and only candidate school in Albania to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students aged 5 - 11.
The school plans to expand to offer the MYP and the IB Diploma in the future.
World Academy of Tirana is a candidate school* for the Primary Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy-a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that World Academy of Tirana believes is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme (and in addition the IB Career-related Certificate). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
